Cup run out at McDiarmid

PERTH football fans will be given a chance to get up close and personal with the Homecoming Scottish Cup on Monday, writes Gordon Bannerman.

It’s the oldest football trophy in the world and St Johnstone will do battle with Rangers in the fourth round on Tuesday night.

The trophy is on tour to engage with local communities and spread the message about joining in celebrations for Homecoming Scotland 2009 – a programme comprising over 300 events to celebrate Scotland’s culture, heritage and its people.

The silverware will be at the St John’s Centre from mid-day onwards and some Saints players will pop in to get sign autographs for supporters.

Scotland’s passion for football is legendary and the Homecoming Scottish Cup, which was minted in 1885, marks the role of the sport in our country’s culture and heritage.

In a year that Scotland is being celebrated globally, the Homecoming Scottish Cup gives football supporters a chance to take pride in both their community and country, by joining in with fans all over the world in cheering on their home team.
