James on the move to United

ST JOHNSTONE club captain Kevin James was last night on his way to Ayr United on a 28-day emergency loan.

The injury plagued defender is eager to get game time under his belt after missing swathes of the current campaign. He has started just five games this term – all of them early in the season.

Manager Derek McInnes revealed his Somerset Park opposite number Brian Reid had made contact earlier in the week. He sees imposing centre-half James as the ideal man to enhance the Division Two leaders’ title prospects.

The clubs were thrashing out the paperwork last night but cInnes said: “Kevin played 90 minutes against Arbroath reserves on Monday and has trained all week. But he would benefit from first team football and with midweek games coming up we don’t have reserves matches planned.

“I’m sure Kevin will make an impression and we can look at his situation.”

DEREK McINNES has agreed to a “Meet the Manager” event at the Dunkeld Road Supporters Club on Saturday after the Ross County game. It starts at 6.15pm.

SAINTS face Clyde on Tuesday at Broadwood with a 7.45pm kick-off.
