Fans are all geared-up for the Main event

FANS on the Weareperth website have kicked-off a collection to pay tribute to potential record breaker Alan Main.

The veteran goalie is closing in on the club’s all-time appearance record.

He’s set to overtake the late Drew Rutherford’s 345 total away to Dunfermline next weekend.

Website contributor Ginger Baker sparked the initiative and he noted: “Drew will still hold the record for the most appearances by a player in one stint at the club. That remains intact and may never be beaten.

“But Alan is setting a new record for the most appearances, even though it has taken place over two spells.

“Alan is a Saintee through and through. I thought it would be great if the fans clubbed together and bought something special for Alan to recognise this great achievement.”

Internet donations have already been coming in thanks to the Jeanfield 208 and donations can be made through their Paypal account. Go to www.paypal.co.uk .

The account name is JEANFIELD208SAINTS@HOTMAIL.CO.UK

Donations from individual supporters and businesses can still be made through the paypal account and this will remain available for donations until after the Dunfermline away game.

Ginger said: “Following discussions with Saints, the club has kindly agreed we can have a cash collection at the home game against Dunfermline on Tuesday.

“There will be a collection in the Muirton Suite before the game and a separate box will be in the souvenir shop in the Ormond stand before the game.

Fans should note there will also be a charity collection at the gate, which is entirely separate from the Alan Main collection.”

Additional collection boxes will be in the 208 Hotel from today and in the Dunkeld Rd supporters club from this weekend.

Ginger said: “Alan will also be presented with a signed Saints top which will carry the names of all those giving donations.

“There will be a book with each collection bucket, allowing donors to write their names down for inclusion on the shirt.

That alone will give Alan a memento he will cherish for ever.

“This is great way for the fans to thank Alan for his tremendous service to the club.”
