Appearance honour for Saints’ Main man

FANS’ favourite Alan Main will receive a unique presentation next week to mark his all-time appearance record for St Johnstone.

The veteran Perth keeper, who recently clinched a new contract, played a key role in the title-winning campaign and is eager to feature in the looming SPL campaign at the age of 41.

Fans on the popular Weareperth website kicked-off a fundraiser near the end of the season to pay special tribute to the two-times Saintee.

And on Wednesday outside McDiarmid Park’s ticket office, at 6.30pm, supporters are invited to go along and see the keeper accept a unique gift to mark the milestone when he beat the late Drew Rutherford’s 345 appearances.

The Saints fan who kicked-off the initiative, tagged Ginger Baker, said: “I’m delighted with the fans’ response to the collection for Alan.

“We’ve received contributions from 131 fans. Each of them will have their name written on a Saints top which will be given to Alan along with the present.

“We have raised a good amount and that has allowed us to have a unique one-off piece designed and manufactured for Alan. I’m sure it’s something he will treasure for the rest of his life. Thanks again to everyone who has made a contribution.”

LUCKY Peter Henderson, Pomarium, won the St Johnstone whisky, 125th anniversary tie and lapel badge in last week’s PA Sport competition. The correct answer was Morton.
