Double strip show for the Saints in the SPL

ST Johnstone are ready to break new ground as they prepare to re-enter the SPL arena for the first time in seven years, reports Gordon Bannerman.

PA Sport understands the Perth club are sealing an extended shirt deal with national housebuilders Wimpey.

And locally based firm Easy Heat is in line to become the first-ever business to be profiled on the back of the Saints shirts. Their name already features on the dug-out roof.

SPL regulations now allow for two shirt sponsors, with loyal sponsor Wimpey remaining on the front and Inveralmond-based Easy Heat sharing space on the back, along with the player’s name and number.

In their 125th anniversary season, Saints have again teamed-up with Surridge and the new-look shirts will feature blue and gold, with their alternative strip in maroon, it has emerged.

An official launch date is pencilled in for later this month.

The maroon shirt is an acknowledgement of the club’s roots.

Alastair Blair and Brian Doyle’s official club history “Bristling with Possibilities” recounts that the 1885 season saw Saints sport maroon shirts at the old Recreation Grounds in the Edinburgh Road.

A unique FanFest is taking place at McDiarmid Park on July 26. Tickets are free to season ticket holders and can be bought at the stadium, priced £10 for adults and £5 for U16s.
