LIAM Craig has entered uncharted territory and he’s loving every minute of the journey.
In the recent cup clash at Forfar the midfielder notched his first double in senior football and his strike against Dundee United in midweek maintained his best-ever scoring sequence. He also converted the first pen of the season against Celtic.
Yesterday, he said: “That’s me scored in the last three matches. I’m on a hot streak. It’s not like me! But it’s great to be getting the goals. Hopefully they will keep coming.”
Now he’s eager to extend the sequence and help bag three points when Hearts come to Perth this weekend.
“I did play up front but that must have been 15 years ago as a kid,” he said. “It’s good to have the composure in areas to get goals. The gaffer said I would be playing a bit more advanced against United and the ball broke to me off a defender’s back.
“It was also good to see Kevin Moon breaking from midfield to get the goal which got us back in the game.”
Craig also believes debutant Cillian Sheridan will be a huge asset to the squad over the second half of the season.
“Cillian hasn’t played a lot of football recently but he will be a great help. He is a welcome addition.”
Craig shared the mixed feelings in the Perth camp over the derby outcome.
“It was disappointing we chucked away a two goal lead and we need to start climbing the table. But United have been flying and before the game we’d probably have taken a point.
“We need to start second halves better. That and losing goals from set-plays has to be sorted out. Do that and we can compete with anyone.”
Craig, who missed training yesterday with a tight hamstring, lavished praise on travelling fans and urged the home crowd to turn out in force tomorrow and cheer them to victory over Hearts.
“They’re all tough games for us this season but we have done well against Hearts so far.”
