Jamie’s got drive

GOLFER Jamie Anton has collected the keys to a new sponsored car, courtesy of Perth car dealers Elder and Paton.

The Murrayshall House Hotel teaching pro has enjoyed a fine start to the season, recording three top 10 finishes from four Scottish starts.

Jamie rose to prominence during a memorable year in 2006 which saw him clinch a 10th place Order of Merit finish.

Following a poor season last time round, he has returned to form on this term’s Tartan Tour and will head to North America to compete on the Canadian Tour in August and September.

The player told PA Sport he believes a new approach to competition nurtured during work with Open winner Padraig Harrington’s coach Bob Torrance has paid dividends.

“I feel the difference this season has been my mindset towards the game,” he said yesterday.

“I’m not putting too much pressure on myself and have also worked hard on the simple things in my game with Bob throughout the winter months.”

Jamie currently lies at the head of the Tartan Tour’s driving accuracy list, having hit an average of 93 per cent of faiways per tournament.

And he was full of praise for the role played by his Scone employers – and his Arran Road-based sponsors – in his success.

“Murrayshall has great practice facilities available to me and I get lots of encouragement from the members,” said Jamie.

“I would like to thank Mike Paton and the staff at Elder and Paton for giving me the sponsored car and helping me get to tournaments across the country.”
