BIG County star Wallace Booth, has been named in the initial GB&I squad selected for the prestigious St Andrews Trophy which will be hosted at Kingsbarns later this summer.
The 16-strong squad was unveiled this week by the R and A.
Comrie's Booth received a timely morale boost going into the Bidwells national strokeplay championship at the Dukes course in St Andrews today.
Booth, last years SGU Order of Merit runner-up, featured with Scottish Golfer of the Year Callum Macaulay in the European Bonallack Trophy team, which triumphed over Asia/Pacific earlier in the season.
Now they are on board for the St Andrews squad, along with fellow Scottish international Keir McNicoll, runner up in last years Allied Surveyors Scottish Amateur Championship.
Only nine players will be selected from the squad to represent GB&I hopes against the Continent of Europe, when the clash gets underway on Scottish soil from August 29-30.
The squad will benefit from a two day training session in June, ahead of the tournament, to help the players familiarise themselves with the course and each other.
Colin Dalgleish, GB&I captain said: After the inevitable move to the professional game by the majority of last years Walker Cup Team, we are now seeing significant new talent emerging fast.
We are hopeful this squad will provide the foundation of both our 2008 St Andrews Trophy Team and 2009 Walker Cup Team.
