Perthshire Golf Trio ready to fly Scots flag

PERTHSHIRE’S trio of Home International competitors are on countdown to the event which will unfold at Muirfield from September 3-5.

Wallace Booth (Crieff), Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) and Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) will be flying the flag for Scotland.

And they’ll be getting a team talk from Colin Montgomerie on the eve of the tournament.

This week, Macdonald Hotels and Resorts, one of the UK’s leading hotel chains, announced they were linking-up with the SGU to sponsor the championships.

The Scots, alongside all other competitors, will be staying at the Macdonald Marine Hotel and Spa in North Berwick during the week of the championship.

Seamus Coen, hotel general manager, said: “We are very much looking forward to hosting the players and anticipate a fantastic week of golf at the Home Internationals.

“There is some great talent coming through in each of the four countries and we’re delighted to playing our part.”

Entrance to the event is free of charge for spectators and the SGU will also provide live scoring on their website.

The Scotland team have recruited Montgomerie to help with the players’ preparation in the build-up to the event, with Monty giving a team talk on the Monday.

The opening ceremony takes place at 6.30pm on Tuesday, September 2 with the action getting underway from 7.30am on September 3.
