Glory trail in the Spey

TWO Perthshire golfers will be aiming for national glory when they tee-up in the Scottish Club Handicap Championship final at Spey Valley today.

Wayne Crole and Manus McGinty, from Blairgowrie, were among 25,000 golfing hopefuls who set out at the start of the season in the SGU’s flagship club event, the biggest participation tournament in Scotland.

Forty club pairings have reached today’s championship finale, with the Shire duo among the first group of players setting out in Aviemore at 8.30am.

The two players successfully made it through from the club’s local qualifying competition and a regional qualifier.

Highlights of the event will be screened on Setanta Sports from September 30 until October 4.

The Scottish Golf Union will also be running a live scoring service during the final, with hole-by-hole coverage available on its website at www.scottishgolf.org
