Perthshire champ golfers miss out

THERE was no joy at the Home of Golf for Big County golfers.

Ireland’s Alan Dunbar captured the St Andrews Links Trophy, which is regarded as the most coveted amateur trophy in European golf.

After getting into contention, world champion Wallace Booth saw his aspirations blown away by a closing 79.

And fellow champion Gavin Dear missed the cut by a solitary stroke, with Blairgowrie duo Glenn Campbell and Stuart Graham out by two.

The handicap for entry was plus 2.4 and the field featured leading amateurs from around the world.

The players played off the Open Championship tees, with some tricky pin positions to spice things up further.
