Booth plays a Euro blinder

WALLACE Booth posted a blistering 66 to help Scotland reach yesterday’s matchplay section of the European Amateur Team Championships in Wales.

Comrie’s world amateur champion, who is joined by Eisenhower Trophy colleague Gavin Dear (Murrayshall) and Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) in the tartan team at Conwy, helped the Scots squeeze into the next stage.

Booth’s six-under round helped the sixth placed Scots emerge from the strokeplay section topped by Norway. Holders Ireland crashed out.

Yesterday, they were up against third placed Sweden as the matchplay unfolded.

But they trailed 2-0 after the morning action with Booth and Michael Stewart losing 3 and 1 while Dear and Campbell lost 4 and 3.

Booth has a dream date at the Barclays Scottish Open to look forward to, joining the top pros at Loch Lomond next week.
