Golf event teed-up for Auchterarder Golf Club

THE countdown is on to a high profile event teed-up for Auchterarder Golf Club.

The Blue Group Pro-Am takes place at the Lang Toon course on Friday, September 24.

And it will feature the top 16 stars from the Tartan Tour Order of Merit, along with Russell Smith of Gleneagles, Alasdair Robertson - formerly of Sunningdale - Bert McKay of Loch Lomond and former European Tour winner, Dean Robertson. They will all be playing for a prize fund of £10,000.

The course is in superb condition despite the impact of the winter snow in the Strathearn area.

Club secretary David Smith said an air of excitement was already beginning to build among members eager to welcome the pros to Auchterarder.

The one-day event is open to the public and starts at 10.30am, with a demonstration by Paul 'the Striker' Barrington, the former World Golf trick shot champion and two times British Long Drive champion.

This is a man who famously who drove all 353 yards of the 1st at Royal Porthcawl. Nothing special in these days of big hitters? He did it with a putter.

The golf itself gets underway at noon with a 20-team shotgun start.

All proceeds from the event are going towards developing junior golf at Auchterarder. Spectators are welcome.
