THE countdown is on to the Ryder Cup 2014 and PA Sport can provide golf fans with a sneak preview of the plush surroundings which will greet the cream of European and American golfers when they arrive at Gleneagles, writes Gordon Bannerman.
Gleneagles Hotel is plotting a £2.5 million investment, designed to create a stunning new-look Dormy House within the hotel grounds.
The golfers’ retreat overlooking the historic King’s and Queen’s courses will undergo a dramatic makeover when work starts next week.
It was 10 years ago that the Dormy House was last refurbished but the latest plans will pave the way to a truly luxurious bar area, restaurant and changing rooms fitting for a Ryder Cup.
Golfing visitors and guests will be able to sample the new-look from the start of next season.
The hotel is seeking consent from Perth and Kinross Council to erect a temporary building adjacent to the Dormy House to accommodate golfers during construction work over the winter.
The money-spinning Ryder Cup comes to Gleneagles in 2014 and will be the most prestigious sporting event Scotland has ever hosted.
