Play Better Golf with Niall McGill

FOLLOWING on from our Flexibility work of the past couple of weeks today I will show you a three step drill to help re-build your timing following a lay off from play.

1. Place the ball on a low tee and make your address position, ensuring that your weight is evenly distributed and that your left arm is comfortably straight (pic.1)

2. Swing slowly back to the point where your left arm is parallel to the ground making sure that you hinge your wrists so that your left arm is at right angles to the club shaft (pic.2)

3. Now swing through ensuring that you turn your arms and body together.

Your follow through should complete at half-way through with your body now pointing at your target (pic.3).

This drill must be performed at a slow speed so that you can learn and feel the synchronised movement of your arms and body.

If your arms take over then you will either hit the ground before the ball or you will hit well to the right.

Once you begin turning your body and arms together then your shots will fly much straighter.
