AUCHTERARDER Golf Club has achieved the prestigious GEO Certified award.
In doing so, it becomes the first traditional UK members’ golf club to earn the title.
One of 40 clubs recognised through the Golf Environment Organisation’s rigorous international certification, the management team at Auchterarder were delighted to secure a place among the world’s most environmentally committed golf clubs.
Archie Dunn, head greenkeeper at the club for 14 years and senior board member of the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), explained: “GEO Certification is an important ongoing project for Auchterarder Golf Club, helping to shape our environmental programme and provide a basis from which we will work to make our club more sustainable year on year.
“As the first traditional GOLF club in the UK to achieve the status, our management team and membership are really proud.”
Jonathan Smith, GEO’s chief executive, added: “As a former sustainability adviser in Scottish golf I’ve had a close insight to the evolution of Auchterarder’s environmental awareness.
This club is a great example for Scottish golf.”
