Obituary for Perthshire golf stalwart

LIZ Miskimmin, a well-known stalwart of Perth and Kinross women’s county golf for many years, has died after a long illness.

Her funeral will be held at Perth Crematorium today at 2pm.

Liz, who lived in Auchterarder and whose home golf club was Dunblane, jointed P&K in 1986, having previously been a member of Stirling and Clackmannan.

She played for the P&K county team for several years between 1988 and 1999 and won the county’s champion of champions’ tournament in 1986. She was capped for the Scottish Veteran Ladies Golf Association team in 1998.

Liz was county captain in 2000 and 2001 and became county president in October 1004. She was made an honorary member of the county after retiring as president in 2009.

Dawn Butchart, past P&K captain and a close friend of Liz said: “Liz was a great ambassador for county golf with boundless energy and enthusiasm.

“She was a joy to know. Liz worked tirelessly for P&K and indeed Scottish golf and for many, me included, golf would not have been so special if it hadn't been for Liz.

“She was always ready with a quiet word and wink of encouragement and always knew just the right things to say. She had a superb sense of humour and was at ease with both young and old.

Liz will always have a place in the heart of P and K, we are all blessed to have known her.

“Liz worked so hard for so many and she fought her last battle with quiet dignity, courage and humour but she lost the fight on Saturday night.”
