Blairgowrie golf coaching

BLAIRGOWRIE Golf Club, counting down to the Scottish Amateur Strokeplay Championship, has signed-up to the government-led Clubgolf initiative in the countdown to their 125th anniversary in 2014.

Twenty local primary 5 and 6 children from local schools are benefiting from golf coaching under the auspices of a team of enthusiastic members who recently graduated with PGA level 1 coaching certificates.

Phil McKenna, Clubgolf co-ordinator for the Big County club said: “It is encouraging that members have given up their time to develop golf coaching skills and knowledge of child protection issues.”

Clubgolf coaching takes place at Blairgowrie Golf Club every Monday and Thursday through to September.

Managing secretary Douglas Cleeton said: “Whilst we have full classes for Clubgolf coaching this year, we hope to build on the projected success and encourage more classes in future which will, in turn, lead to greater opportunities for young people to learn to play golf – and then take advantage of the fantastic coaching classes that our professional Charles Dernie and his team organise for Junior and Senior members.”

Whilst Clubgolf coaching is available to non-members of the club, spaces are limited.

Blairgowrie’s Lansdowne course hosts the Scottish Amateur Strokeplay championship from May 26-29 and is seeking members to volunteers for “live scoring” duties and other tasks. Volunteers, working in shifts, will be afforded hospitality by the SGU.

The 144 competitors in an international field are of the highest quality. The ballot has resulted in players with a handicap of better than +1.3 being included in the final draw.

Blairgowrie Golf Club is being represented by Scottish international Glenn Campbell, and by special invitation, reigning teenage club champion Bradley Neil.

If members have any time over this weekend to assist, contact manager@theblairgowriegolfclub.co.uk or by telephone the office and leave your contact details.
