Timber removal clears Perth tournament

WHEN advised it would take weeks to clear fallen trees from the North Inch golf course, members of Perth Artisans swung into action.

Over the course of several evenings last week, the de facto lumberjacks put their backs into cutting up trunks blocking the back nine holes and removing branches and debris.

Thanks to their determined efforts, the Perth Merchants Golf Club's annual open – postponed due to the aftermath of the recent storm that toppled numerous trees – will now tee off next weekend.

A delighted Perth Merchants captain, Robin Valentine, saluted the Artisans, saying his members and all patrons of the iconic North Inch course, really appreciated their work.

“We were advised that it might take several weeks for the full golf course to re-open for play due to the 144 reports of storm damage throughout Perth and Kinross,” he said.

“Perth Artisans deserve the thanks of all the other clubs that play over the North Inch golf course for their efforts to get the course open once again.”

Late entries for the open on Sunday, June 19, can be obtained by calling the Starters Box at the North Inch golf course on 01738 636481.
