TOP spot on the Tartan Tour’s Sprint Series golf event in Blairgowrie Golf Club was shared between Greg McBain (Royal Dornoch), Craig Ronald (Carluke), Graham Fox (East Kilbride) and Alan Tait (Dalmahoy).
The leading quartet all fired three-under 69s over the Lansdowne course to finish a stroke ahead of a group of players that included former PGA Cup players Craig Matheson and Robert Arnott.
McBain, Ronald, Fox and Tait each picked up a £682 share of the prize fund.
The early players without doubt got the best of the weather, whilst the afternoon saw flash flooding on and around the golf course, which the greenstaff from the club coped with, allowing play to continue albeit in unpleasant conditions.
Managing Secretary Douglas Cleeton said: “It is tremendous to watch the Tartan Tour players play over Lansdowne, which included European Tour pros Ronan Rafferty and Stephen McAllister. Conditions were tricky owing only to the extremely heavy rain, and the scoring was very good in the circumstances.
“The green staff worked very hard and are commended for the effort in keeping the course playable.
This was the first Professional event to be played over the Lansdowne course, but plans are already underway for future events over both Lansdowne and Rosemount, which only reinforces the stature of the championship courses.”
Blairgowrie Golf Club continue to attract major events from both the Ladies and Gents governing Amateur and Professional Golf bodies and attract many new member enquiries resulting from the revised membership and joining fees.
