Crieff Golf Club champs

CRIEFF Golf Club’s championship finals were played out in beautiful summer sunshine.

The Ladies final between Jane Yellowlees and Una Woodburn, and refereed by lady captain Sheena Davies, proved a tight contest all the way to the second extra hole.

Both ladies missed makable putts on 18 for a win and then halved the first in overtime. Una holed out from some eight feet on the second for the win.

The gents final, between defending champion David Simpson and Finlay White, refereed by club captain Jim Harley, proved close all the way.

Dave was twice two up but immediately lost the next two holes to go square.

Finlay, levelling for the second time at 16 with a superb approach, saw Dave find the bunker and go under pressure. It was all square going down the last.

David stuck to his game plan and laid-up with an iron from the tee, but Finlay took on the short par 4 and came up just yards short, right.

The testing pin placement short left made Simmo’s approach impossible to leave close, and he then failed to get down in two from the back edge, conceding Finlay’s four and the win.

The course was in superb condition with the quality and speed of the greens and pin positions testing the approaches and patience of all the players during championship week.

Around 80 spectators enjoyed the final rounds and celebration in the clubhouse afterwards.
