ARE there any slicers out there?
Slicing is by far the most common fault in golf and one that with bit of practice can be eradicated for ever!
Firstly, you need to understand why you slice and then you can work on fixing the fault. A slice is produced when the golf ball is struck with a clubface that is open (points right) to the path that the club is travelling.
More often than not, the club is travelling on an out-to-in path after the club has been “cast” from the top of the backswing (pics. 1 and 2). You need to work on the initial movement of your downswing to make sure that your club starts down on plane (pic.3).
If you have been casting the club at the start of your down swing, then this movement will feel to you as if your club is working behind your body as you start down.
Good technique is achieved by a player feeling movements in the swing.
A player will often have to feel like they are doing one thing even though they are actually doing something else. Perception versus reality is what makes golf such a tricky sport to master.
