PERTHSHIRE are holding a touch rugby competition to raise funds for Scone’s Capers Cottage, which provides respite care for disabled children and their families.
The competition, which starts on May 27, has two leagues, social and super. In the social there has to be two females on the field at all times.
“The competition is open to players of all ages, ability, gender, fitness and experience,” said Shire’s new development officer Andy Cummins. “It is a great social event and anyone new to the club is welcome to attend.
“Touch involves minimal contact and there are no lineouts, scrums, tackling or kicking. It is an ideal way to keep fit and meet new people.”
The competition is registered with the Scottish Touch Association and is open to all.
Both league options require a maximum squad of 12 players and two 20-minute games each evening.
Each team must supply a volunteer to act as a referee, who will be asked to take part in a beginners’ refs course on Sunday from 10am-12pm.
After an initial training week, the leagues start on May 27 and carry on weekly at 7pm until June 24.
Entry costs £60 per team, including the training week.
To register, contact Andy Cummins on 07717 798698, e-mail touchinthepark@btinternet.com, or visit www.perthshirerfc.co.uk by Sunday.
SHIRE’S annual charity dinner takes place on May 24 at Perth’s Salutation Hotel.
Tickets are available from Andy Elder at Eden Events on 01738 567892 or contactus@edeneventplanning.co.uk
SHIRE’S S1s beat Panmure 8-5 in tries at the Inch last Sunday – an improved all round tackling display. Training at the Inch at noon on Sunday.
The minis will train outside Bell’s at 10.30am. Last Sunday they travelled to the Boroughmuir Tournament.
It was an excellent day all round and there were some good results. Thanks go to all the parents for their support.
The P7 side qualified from their group and only lost narrowly in the semi-finals to GHA. Having conceded three tries in the first half, the boys fought their way back into the game with two great scores but could not level the game.
P6 lost their first game to Boroughmuir, then rallied after a slow start against Marr to win 4-2, but went out after a 5-3 defeat against Portobello.
P5 not only won all their group games, including a 4-2 win against the hosts, they went on to beat Marr in the semi-final and then beat the hosts again in the final to win the tournament. Congratulations to all on a fantastic achievement.
P4 took a mixed P3/4 side and played well, losing two games and winning one, with good play in all three games.
