Busy weekend for Shire u18s

Perthshire U18s

TOMORROW, Gordonstoun are visiting Perth to play in the league.

This promises to be a close encounter as they emerged victorious by the narrowest of margins at the start of the season.

All players selected should be at Bell’s at 10.45am, kick- off is at noon.

U17 – Last week the side travelled to Dunfermline to play a Gasgow/Caledonia Cup semi-final.

Shire had the best of the first-half and were 5-3 up at the break. But the second period was very different, with Dunfermline applying all the pressure.

They went 8-5 ahead and it looked like they would win the game. But Shire picked themselves up In the last five minutes and got back into the match.

With a couple of minutes left Andy Hall scored in the corner to end the game 10-8 to Perthshire.

This puts the Perth team into the final against West Of Scotland, details of which have still to be arranged.

U16 – The team made the short trip to Kinross with the largest squad of the season so far.

With the first-half dominated by a determined home team, Perthshire struggled to supply decent ball for the backs.

It was through two forwards’ tries that kept the score 12-10 at the interval.

With the wind at their backs, it was a much better display in the second period, with Perthshire scoring two unanswered tries to win 20-12.

This Sunday there is another away league game against Glenrothes.

Players will be travelling by car and offers of transport would be appreciated. Meet at Bell’s at 10.45am or at Glenrothes at 11.45am.

U15 – There will be no training on Sunday.

Midi Rugby

S2 – Last Sunday, playing in the Stirling mini tournament, the S2 boys played very well to defeat Dunfermline and lost by only a point against Stirling.

This was a much improved performance on the previous weekend’s game against Dundee and lifts spirits for the Madras tournament on Sunday.

Details have still to be finalised for this event.

S1 – On Sunday, S1 (sponsors Thistle Hotels and Campus Sports) took a squad to Stirling to play two games.

They started the first slowly and soon found themselves two scores down against Stirling. They rallied well but couldn't quite close the gap.

The boys hit the ground running for their second game and ran out comfortable winners against Dunfermline.

There was some excellent rucking and passing by the backs and forwards but more work is needed on tackling.
