Minis roll out for top tournament
LAST Sunday, 14 clubs met at the North Inch to compete in the Perthshire Mini Tournament.
Just over 540 players took part in the day-long event.
The tournament, which was organised by the Rugby Development Team, consisted of four age grade competitions.
In Primary 4, Perthshire were able to field three teams but two of them missed semi-final qualification on goal difference.
The final between Madras and Currie was tied at full-time and with the “sudden death” ruling Currie emerged victors after three minutes of extra-time.
Madras reached the finals of the P5 and P7 competitions but were beaten by Boroughmuir and Currie respectively.
The Perthshire P6 squad emerged unbeaten in their league qualifications game and reached the finals after beating Dundee in the semis.
The game against Boroughmuir was a close encounter and the defences of both teams were stretched to the limit with countless attacks and counter-attacks.
Midway through the second-half, a spilled pass was pounced on by the Boroughmuir winger who scored in the corner.
The Perth team spent the next three minutes camped on their opponents’ line but they just fell short on several attempts and Boroughmuir held out for the victory.
With 88 fixtures on the day, and just over 900 tries scored, all those in attendance were treated to a feast of rugby.
Perthshire Rugby club would like to thank all those who offered their help and a special mention to those who managed to organise and pack the 600 lunches required on the day.
Thanks also to the main sponsors of the event – Campbell Dallas, who support the club Centre of Excellence,Tesco, who provided all the food for the lunches, HSBC Bank for their donation to the running costs and Campus Sports for their raffle donations.
