SHIRE will host the first Scottish Golden Oldies’ Festival at the North Inch on April 19.
Teams from all over the country will participate in the “veteran” code of the game and around 500-plus players will grace the hollowed turf that is the North Inch.
Famous Grouse are the main festival sponsors.
Included in the entries are the Fife Flyers, the Baggie Pipers, the Golden Eagles, from Perth, and the Aberdeen Strollers, who still remain the only Scottish side to have participated in every World and European event since the mid 1980s when “veteran” rugby was first originated.
A number of ex -internationalist are expected on the day and the current SRU president has intimated that he might don his golden boots for the day.
The festivities kick-off at 10 am with an exhibition game between the President’s XV and Kirkcaldy Zingari and is expected to finish at 4pm.

MORE than 65 children took part in the three-day rugby camp at the North Inch.
The players were put through their paces with morning sessions covering tackling, ball presentation, rucking and rugby fundamentals.
The three-day camp featured a series of rugby-orientated games with space invaders, knee rugby and sharks and fishes being the most popular.

THERE will be no training this Sunday – to allow for the Easter holiday break.
With the final three tournaments of the year looming, training will resume on April 19.
The tournament dates are: Currie – April 25, Boroughmuir – May 3 and Portobello – May 17.
The season will finish with a fun day on May 25.
