NEARLY 200 competitors from all around Scotland came to compete in the George Duncan Testimonial Athletics Competition last Saturday at the Perth stadium.
Cheered on by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic crowd, the young athletes performed very well in truly atrocious weather conditions.
The day started with a senior invitation road race over a four mile course created by David Knight. Winner of the men’s race was Perth Road Runner, Linton Scarborough in a time of 23min. 35 sec. The women’s event was won by another Perth Road Runner, Keri Weatherhogg in a time of 25min. 22 sec.
Throughout the day the spectators were treated to some excellent athletic competition on the track and in the field. The poor weather did not dampen the young athletes’ competitive spirit. Going into the final relay events there were only a few points separating first and third place. Some great runs by the Perth relay teams resulted in them winning by one point. Perth ended the day on 299 points closely followed by Lasswade and Central Region both on 298 points.
Following the competition, guests and officials were invited to a reception hosted by the Provost which rounded off a wonderful day of athletics in Perth .
Without the support of a number of organisations this special day would not have been possible. Perth Strathtay Harriers would like to thank the following organisations for their help: the Guildry Incorporation of Perth, Perth and Kinross Council, Aviva, Asda, PHysical, Campus Sports, Brooks Running Shoes, McEwans of Perth , Campbell Dallas Financial Services Ltd, Highland Spring, Bell Tree Inn, Methven, Perth and Kinross Sports Council.
Following a successful day on Saturday, Perth athletes were out again the next day in the Petrofac league at the Caird Park stadium, Dundee.
