25th Perth 10k roll call sprints past the 100 mark

WITH just over a week to go, entries for the 25th Perth 10k have already topped the 100-mark.

The organisers, who would prefer advance bookings for the August 31 event, are also bracing themselves for many more participants signing-up on the day – encouraged by the GB goldrush in Beijing.

Perth and Kinross Sports Council was delighted to take on this popular race after a year in abeyance.

Yesterday, Councillor Bob Ellis said: “It’s important the Fair City of Perth has a race such as this and, with many other sporting events which take place during the year, we are continually in the spotlight.”

The change of route should please runners as they leave the George Duncan Athletics Track at 1pm next Sunday and follow the route in front of Jeanfield Swifts Football Ground and then the tarmac path alongside the Rivers Tay and Almond to the top of Ruthvenfield Place.

At this point runners run round the triangle and then back to the top of the North Inch where they will follow the River Tay until the end of the golf course. Then it’s straight over to Bell’s Sports Centre and back to the Athletics Track, passing the cottages at the back of St Columbus School.

Registration starts at 11.30am at the Athletics Track. Pre-entries are £6 if you are affiliated, £8 for non-affiliated runners and it’s £10 to enter on the day.

Runners will all receive a medal and a goodie bag at the finish.

The Fun Run will start again at the Track and follow a route down to the North Inch, doing a full circuit before coming back to the track. This event will cost just £1.

This run is an opportunity for individuals and clubs of all kinds to raise funds for a charity or their own organisation.

Bob said: “There’s still plenty of time to do this and take part. In the past. some of the 10k runners have even used this to warm down – they must be mad.”

If anyone would like any more information on entering the 10k race or doing the Fun Run, contact Bob Ellis on: Tel (01250) 873899 or Katja Stock on (01738) 477851.
