Harriers on the rise after Grangemouth successes

ON Friday and Saturday last week, Perth Strathtay Harriers’ competed for their schools in the Scottish Schools’ Championships at Grangemouth.

For the U17 age group, the chance to gain a Scottish Schools’ vest at the British Schools was is most likely to be bestowed upon Craig Ritchie (Perth High School) who finished second in the U17 men’s 400m hurdles and third in the 400m, so is a likely contender for the hurdles and the 4x400m relay.

David Colthart (Pitlochry High School) claimed third in the Discus and fourth in the shot putt, Emma Dawson (Perth Acadmey) was fourth in a very competitive triple jump final while Peter Muirhead (Crieff High) was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.

In other age groups, the Harriers also competed well, with Donald Tod (Crieff High) gaining silver medals in both the long jump and triple jump in the Over-17 age group, while Susan Peddie (Perth Academy) also gained silver in the Over-17 triple jump.

The U14s also competed well with Louise Dawson (Perth Academy) just missing out on a medal with a fourth place finish in the 75m hurdles while Lorna McLarty (Crieff) also took fourth place, this time in the 800m.

Special mention should also go to Iona Tavendale (Crieff) who made her first-ever Scottish final by achieving a 23-second personal best in the 1500m.

Next up for the Harriers is this weekend’s Scottish Senior Championships at Pitreavie.

Bruce Gibb, Craig Ritchie, Craig Robertson, Donald Tod, Susan Peddie and Tom Helyer will all take on the very best Scotland has to offer.
