Perth Road Runners – MAY 28

A NUMBER of runners headed to the capital on Sunday for the Edinburgh Marathon, Half Marathon and Hairy Haggis Relay.

The Half Marathon was included for the first time this year in addition to the other races.

The conditions certainly made it tough for the runners with high temperatures despite the heavy rain and dull clouds greeting everyone as they headed to the city.

There was great success for the PRR guys in the Relay. Mike Carroll, Linton Scarborough, Tony Jackson and Ewan Taylor won in a time of 2hrs 37mins and 59 secs.

In the marathon, Erni Hamilton was the first PRR home in 3.20.14 followed by Steven Bonthrone in 3.25.02; Kevin Judge 3.33.22; Rhona McBean 3.37.21 – a new personal best.

Kenneth Stewart completed the race in 3.49.53 and can celebrate being one of 55 people who were presented with a medal before the start having run all of the seven Edinburgh Marathons.

Robin and Anne Wombill, meanwhile, took part in the Cape Wrath Marathon in Durness, the most north westerly marathon on the British mainland and also described as the toughest one with a climb of over 2,415ft. Anne and Robin completed the race together in 4hrs 51mins 42secs.

The club meet at Bells every Tuesday at 6.30pm and newcomers are welcome.
