Athletes success in Dundee competition

FOUR Perth Strathtay Harriers athletes travelled to Caird Park in Dundee to compete in the Tayside Disability Athletics Championships.

The mixture of sun, wind and rain did not dampen the Perth athletes’ spirits as they performed well in a series of individual track and field events.

Louise Brett, just back from competing in Liverpool, had a great day on the track.

Louise entered the 60m, 100m and 200m events and earned one gold and two bronze medals through her efforts.

Michael Rice won the gold in the mens’ 800m event with his brother Kevin coming in second to collect a richly deserved silver.

The Rice brothers also had success in the field, picking up medals in both the shot putt and the javelin events.

Special mention should go to Finlay Skeet, a pupil at Fairview School in Perth who on his first outing to these championships had a great run in the 100m to win silver.

He was just inches away from first place.

Finlay was not finished there as he went on to jump 3.09m in the long jump to win a bronze medal.

In total the Perth athletes came home with 10 medals and lots of happy memories of a great day of athletics.

Training continues at the George Duncan Athletics Arena.
