Anderson lifts player of the month award

STEVEN Anderson has finally emerged as a first choice central defender this term.

And his role in a reliable defensive unit was reflected by his first PA Sport/Easy Heat Systems player of the month award.

Now one of the club’s longest serving players, the 25-year-old one-time Dundee United apprentice had graduated with honours.

His contribution hasn’t gone unnoticed in the dressing room, with five successive home clean sheets helping hoist Saints up the table and into the last eight of the Scottish Cup.

Midfielder Murray Davidson, said: “The whole team deserves credit for the shut-outs but Michael Duberry and Steven Anderson have been superb. They have struck up a great understanding.

“Everyone knows about Michael but Ando just goes about his business quietly and effectively. That has given us a platform to get results.”

Davidson has revealed his Scotland U21 days are behind him, with coach Billy Stark focusing on the next generation of talent for the Euro qualifiers.

The Saint, who is being monitored closely by Scotland boss Craig Levein, said: “Billy called me and a few of the older lads to thank us and explain the situation. I totally understand where he is coming from.

“But it was a great experience being called into the Scotland squad for the Faroe Islands game and that has to be my target now.”
