ST JOHNSTONE chairman Geoff Brown – pictured above – is ready to mark his 25 years in charge of the Perth club by filling the space vacated by shirt sponsor Taylor Wimpey, writes Gordon Bannerman.
With kit manufacturers Joma completing work on the new home and away strips for next season, an announcement is imminent on the new sponsor.
And PA Sport understands that the name on the front of the Saints jerseys next season will be the chairman’s St Madoes-based family construction firm, GS Brown.
With the UK housebuilding scene still stagnant, national company Taylor Wimpey intimated they would not be extending their sponsorship with the McDiarmid club, triggering the search for a new shirt sponsor.
But with interested parties unable to meet the valuation placed on the sponsorship opportunity by the Perth board, the chairman is ready to step in.
It was back in 1986 that Brown rescued the ailing Perth football club from the brink of bankruptcy and past shirt sponsors have included Famous Grouse, Bonar, Scottish Hydro-Electric, Megabus and Citylink.
Meanwhile, the club have secured a successor to departed general manager Grant Cullen. The successful candidate is a local man with experience in the licensed trade and entertainment scene. He will assume the role shortly.
